Obituary for William Michael McCrory

William Michael (Mike) McCrory, 74, of Greenville, MS, passed away peacefully at his home on September 19, 2020, with his two grandsons, Cooper and Matthew Jernigan, by his side.
Mike moved to Glen Allan as a sophomore in high school and graduated from Glen Allan High School in 1964. It was there on Lake Washington that he met his wife, Theda Duke. She was his high school sweetheart, and they married in 1966. He attended Delta State University and finished his degree in 1969. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force in the Officer Candidate Pilot Program. After being medically discharged from the Air Force, he returned to Greenville where he operated the first catfish hatchery for Vernon Hammett at Lake Annette. After leaving the catfish industry, Mike entered into a life-long career in sales. The last twenty-five years were spent selling scrapers.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, James Melton McCrory; his mother, Eva McCrory; and his brother, James Edward McCrory.
Mike is survived by Theda, his wife of fifty-four years, and their dog, Amber; his daughter, Melanie McCrory Mathews (Chris) of Henderson, Texas; his son, Michael Duke McCrory (Dana) of Bruce, MS; and daughter/niece, Sarah Beth Jones Hendrix (Ken) of Anguilla, MS.
Mike also leaves his two biological grandsons, Cooper Allen Jernigan of Plano, Texas, and Matthew Jernigan of Hattiesburg, MS, to cherish his memory and life lessons. They were both by his side as he passed on to his heavenly home. His journey was complete after the boys arrived on Saturday to say their goodbyes.
Until the end, the sparkle never left his eyes when his precious granddaughter Karly Hendrix called his name, “Pops”, or when his namesake, Michael Thomas Hendrix, reached to hug his neck. He was always interested in whatever his two step grandsons, Bailey and Brody, were doing. They, too, had a piece of his heart.
Mike will be missed by all, but he leaves behind many good memories for the family to share.
Mortimer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice. A memorial will be planned at a later date.
