In the afternoon of January 7, 2019, our Heavenly Father called home one of his Angels, Jimmie Louise Cochran Stewart, age 98. She was a resident of Humphreys County Nursing in Belzoni, Mississippi but had spent the last few days in Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Mrs. Stewart, known as Mamaw to many, was born on October 22, 1920 to Austin H. and Vera V. Lynch Cochran. She spent most of her life in the Humphreys County area. She was a Godly loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grands. She worked hard to help raise her children after the death of her husband Albert J. Stewart, whom she married on September 6, 1941. He left this earth much too early. She taught them to love God and the importance of knowing Him. Jimmie was in Church as often as she was able to attend and had been attending Beulah Baptist Church before moving to the nursing home. She taught them to respect others, obey the law, be kind to one another and most importantly of being a close family. She was known throughout the community as one of the best babysitters around and probably helped raise about half of us in the Belzoni area. Always a kind, loving smile on her face. She loved to cook and had something on the stove at all times. She would invite all visitors to have something while they were there. Besides loving to cook, she loved to play dominoes and could play you a hard game until the end.

Jimmie Stewart was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert, her parents Austin and Vera, 3 sons, George Harvey Stewart, James Roane Setwart, and Jimmy Lewis Stewart. as well as 7 brothers and 1 sister. She leaves behind to cherish their memories, daughters, Lori Purvis (Johnny), Belzoni, Judy Muse (Eddie), Greenwood, Joyce Lloyd (Earl), Belzoni, Margie Tabb, Greenwood, Pamela Watson (Larry), Belzoni, and her sons, Albert J. Stewart Jr. (Punkie), Avalon, Ronnie Stewart (Christy), Coila, Jerry Stewart (Cheryl), Belzoni, and Scottie Stewart (Janet), Belzoni. Besides her loving children she leaves behind the joy of her life, 24 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews as well as so many friends you cannot count them.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, from 1 PM to service time at 2 PM at Mortimer Funeral Home, Belzoni, who has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Reverend George Johnson and Reverend Howard Tucker will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Josh Stewart, Joey Walker, Jay Stewart, Walker Stewart, Orlanda (Squeaky) Stewart, David Watson, Gerald Stewart Jr. and Dustin Lloyd.
