Helen (Nell) Scrivner Cox was reunited with her family in Heaven on June 21, 2020. She was born in her beloved Mississippi Delta in Sunflower County on November 6, 1927. She was born to Maifred Holloway Scrivner and grew up in Linn, Mississippi. She is the last of 10 children to join the Scrivner heavenly reunion. She is preceded in death by sisters Effie Baker, Opal Mixon, Chris Banks, and Faye Leamond as well as brothers, Rual Scrivner, Buford Scrivner, Alfred Scrivner, Hal Scrivner, and Morris Scrivner. Oh, what a reunion this will be! She is survived by sister-in-law, Vonda Scrivner.
Nell Cox loved her family most. She was married to her Purple Heart veteran and firefighter husband, C.W. Cox, for 62 years. He preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter Pam Franck (Roger), two grandsons that she adored Ryne Bankston and Reid Bankston, and the newest light of her life, great-grandson Daniel Bankston. Aunt Nell will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews that she loved like her children.
She was a lifetime member of the Mississippi Firefighters’ Ladies Auxiliary where she served in many positions of the organization. She loved the many friends that she made throughout the years and being a “Golden Girl” with her sisters.
When Nell and C W retired, they moved from Greenville, MS to their 3C Ranch at Water Valley, MS. Even though “retired”, Nell enjoyed keeping busy with several jobs in the community, including the Yalobusha County Circuit Clerks’ office until she moved to Oxford, MS. While in Water Valley, she was an Ambassador and member of the Garden Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Water Valley and attended Oxford-University United Methodist Church while living in Oxford.
Nell loved life! She loved traveling, bingo, horse racing, laughter, and she LOVED her Ole Miss Rebels. She had many fun football memories with her dear friends Jesse and Mildred Franklin.
A small family service will be held at Linn Methodist Church, Linn, MS on June 24, 2020 at 2:00 p.m., with burial following in the Linn Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville is charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nell’s honor can be made to the Linn United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 12 Carmelita Cove, Shaw, MS 38773 or the Mississippi Firefighters’ Association / Ladies Auxiliary, 142 Geiger Farm Road, Seminary, MS. 39479.
