Obituary for George Edward Graves

George Graves, 72, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 11, 2020. He was born February 2, 1948, to George and Emma Chunn Graves.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dottie, son, Kevin Graves (Kim) of Belzoni, daughters, Jennifer Attaway (Jason) of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jamie Taylor (Jay), Brandon,13 wonderful grandchildren, Saxton, Tanner, Kyle, Anna Kealey, Preston, Jordyn, Adelyn, Ashlyn, Brock, Logan, Anna Laken, Nash and Ridge, and abrother Buddy Graves (Dot) of Wlanut Grove, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma Graves and a sister, Reba Graves.

George Graves lived most of his adult life in Belzoni, after being born and raised in Philadelphia, Mississippi, with his wife and family. He touched the lives of hundreds of students during his 38 years career as an educator and administrator at Deer Creek School, Humphreys Academy, and the Humphreys County School System.

George never met a stranger and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. His Southern charm and jovial demeanor will be missed by all.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 15, 2020, from 5 PM till 7 PM at Mortimer Funeral Home in Belzoni. Services will be held Friday October 16, 2020, at the First United Methodist Church Belzoni, Mississippi with visitation starting at 10 AM followed by the service at 11 AM. Burial will follow at the Belzoni City Cemetery.

Reverends Howard Tucker and Richard Wiman will officiate. Pallbearers will be Michael Massey, Steve Chepkevich, Eddie Boyd, Tanner Graves, Jason Attaway, Jay Taylor, Preston Childs and Kyle Graves. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hal Bridges, David Glasscock, Jim Bell, Reggie Helms, Bill Henson, Lewis James, Tim Allen and Richard Horton.

Mortimer Funeral Home has the honor of being in charge of the services.
