Obituary for William Avery Nations

Funeral services for William Avery “Bill“ Nations, age 93, of Holcomb, are at 11 a.m., Friday, October 6, 2017 at Sparta Methodist Church near Holcomb. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery near Holcomb, Mississippi.

Visitation is Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sparta Methodist Church.

Bill died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Allegiance Specialty Hospital in Greenville, Mississippi.

He was born on July 4, 1924 in Vaiden, Mississippi and was the son of the late Robert Luther Nations and Lettie Elizabeth Chesteen Nations.

Bill was employed by Wonder Bread as a Branch Manager. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge. He attended Hillside Baptist Church and Sparta Methodist Church every Sunday. Bill was also a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force serving during World War II and during the Korean Conflict.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Edmond Nations and Neal Taylor Nations.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Carver Nations of Holcomb; one daughter, Wanda Nations Turner of Richmond, Virginia; four step-sons, Michael Wayne Carver of Germany, Keith Marion Carver of Grenada, Darrell Carver of Holcomb, and Kenny Carver of Brighton, Tennessee; two brothers, Kermit Nations of Amory and Cecil Nations of Forrest; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; ten step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children‘s Research Hospital, Post Office Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
