Betty Fay Ponder, formerly of Greenville, passed away at home in Starkville at the age of 78 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease surrounding by her family.

She was born November 4th, 1939, the daughter of Russell Hill and Lottie Whitehead.
She graduated from Glen Allan High School in 1958. In 1959 she married Johnnie D. Ponder.


She was a retired Bookkeeper.


Her interests included family, gardening, sewing and crossword puzzles. After retiring she devoted much of her time and energy to her family.
She was a member University Baptist Church of Starkville, MS

She was preceded in death by her parents Russell & Lottie Hill; beloved husband of 31 years, Johnnie Duane Ponder in 1990; her devoted daughter, Sharon F. Elliott in 2003; siblings, Charles Hill, David Hill, Larry Hill, & Kenneth Hill.


Survivors include her children, Rodney Ponder (Edie), Sheila Ponder (Lee Ann), Tracy Sherrer (Skeeter).
Grandchildren: Ricky L Nelson Jr., John Austin Schroeder, Erin R Thibodeaux, Johnnie D Ponder, Eric L. Ponder
Great Grandchildren: Gavin Nelson, Hannah Nelson, Katie Nelson, Hudson Schroeder, Nolan Schroeder, & Leighton Thibodeaux

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 5th, 2018 at Mortimer Funeral Home, Greenville.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
